Your Story, Your Rights: These terms protect both your creative freedom and our ability to keep WriteO running smoothly. We keep everything fair and transparent, with no fine-print surprises. Please read this agreement carefully before using the Service.
01.Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using WriteO ("the Service", "the Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and WriteO App ("WriteO", "we", "us", "our"). If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you may not access or use the Service.
- You must be at least 13 years of age to use WriteO.
- If you are between 13 and 18 years of age, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.
- These Terms apply to all users, including visitors, free-plan users, paid subscribers, and Lifetime license holders.
- By creating an account, completing a purchase, or continuing to use the Service after any update to these Terms, you confirm your acceptance.
02.Account Registration
To access the full functionality of WriteO, you must create an account. By registering, you agree to:
- Provide accurate, complete, and current information during registration and keep it up to date.
- Maintain the confidentiality of your login credentials and not share your account with any other person.
- Notify us immediately at [email protected] if you suspect any unauthorized access to or use of your account.
- Accept full responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account, whether or not authorized by you.
- Maintain only one active account. Operating multiple accounts to circumvent plan limits is a violation of these Terms.
WriteO reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, contain inaccurate information, or are associated with abusive or fraudulent activity.
03.Subscription Plans and Billing
WriteO offers multiple subscription tiers. For current pricing and feature availability, please visit our Pricing Page.
Merchant of Record: All payment processing is conducted by Paddle.com, our third-party reseller. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all transactions and is responsible for payment-related inquiries, receipts, and applicable tax compliance. By purchasing a subscription, you also agree to Paddle's Terms of Service.
Billing Cycles:
- Monthly subscriptions are billed on the same calendar day each month.
- Annual subscriptions are billed once per year on the anniversary of the purchase date.
- Billing is processed automatically at the start of each new billing period.
- You authorize WriteO and Paddle to charge your payment method on file for all recurring fees.
Failed Payments and Grace Period:
- If a payment fails, your account enters a 3-day grace period. During this window, your subscription remains active and you retain full access to the platform.
- We will notify you by email and display an in-app alert prompting you to update your payment method.
- If payment is not resolved within the grace period, your account will be write-locked: you can read and export your content, but you cannot create new content until payment is resolved or the plan is cancelled.
- If the payment remains unresolved and Paddle cancels the subscription, your account transitions to the Free plan.
Cancellation:
- You may cancel your subscription at any time from within your account settings on the WriteO platform.
- Upon cancellation, your plan remains active and fully accessible until the end of your current paid billing period. No partial refunds are issued for unused time.
- After the billing period ends, your account automatically transitions to the Free plan limits.
- Your content is never deleted upon cancellation. You retain access to your work on the Free plan subject to its storage and feature limits.
Price Changes: We reserve the right to modify pricing with at least 30 days' advance notice to existing subscribers, delivered via email or in-app notification. Price changes do not affect the current active billing cycle and apply from the next renewal date.
04.Lifetime Plan
The Lifetime plan grants you perpetual access to WriteO at the feature tier available at the time of purchase, subject to the following specific terms:
- The Lifetime plan is a one-time, non-recurring purchase. No further subscription fees are charged after the initial payment.
- Access is granted for the lifetime of the WriteO platform. In the unlikely event that WriteO ceases operations, we will provide at least 90 days' notice and a means to export your data.
- The Lifetime plan is non-transferable and tied to a single user account. It may not be resold, gifted, or assigned to another person.
- Lifetime plan holders are entitled to platform improvements and new features as they are released. However, WriteO reserves the right to introduce separate premium add-ons in the future that may require additional purchase.
- Refund Policy for Lifetime: A 7-day full refund window and a limited 30-day partial refund window apply to Lifetime purchases, as described in full in Section 12.3. After 30 days from purchase the license is final and non-refundable. If you have questions prior to purchasing, please contact us at [email protected].
- Consent to the Lifetime Terms and Conditions is recorded at the time of purchase, including device and timestamp, for compliance and evidence purposes.
05.Content Ownership and License
You own everything you create on WriteO. Your novels, characters, chapters, notes, world-building content, and all other creative material remain your exclusive intellectual property.
- WriteO does not claim ownership of, or any rights over, your creative work.
- By using the Service, you grant WriteO a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free, revocable license solely to store, process, display, and transmit your content for the purpose of providing and operating the platform on your behalf.
- This license is strictly limited to operating the Service. It does not permit WriteO to publish, sell, license, or otherwise exploit your content for any other purpose.
- You may export, publish, or delete your content at any time using the tools provided in your account.
- This license terminates immediately upon your deletion of specific content or closure of your account.
- Your content is never read, analyzed, sold, or shared for any commercial purpose. This commitment extends explicitly to AI and machine learning systems, as detailed in Section 06.
06.Our Stance on AI
Our Commitment: No AI Training. Ever.
WriteO does not use your content to train, fine-tune, or improve any artificial intelligence or machine learning model. We do not share your content with any third party for AI training purposes. Your manuscripts, characters, notes, and world-building content are private creative assets and will never be used as training data under any circumstances.
This commitment is unconditional and applies in all circumstances:
- No AI training: Your content is never fed into, used to train, or used to evaluate any AI or machine learning model, whether operated by WriteO or any third party.
- No content analysis for AI: We do not perform automated analysis of your creative content for any AI development purpose.
- No data partnerships: We do not enter into data-sharing arrangements with AI companies or research institutions that would grant access to your creative content.
- WriteO is not an AI writing tool: WriteO is a structured writing and novel management platform. Any assistive features on the platform are designed to support your creative process and organizational workflow. Full creative control and ownership remain yours at all times.
- This policy applies to all tiers including Free, paid subscriptions, and Lifetime plans. There are no exceptions.
07.Acceptable Use
You agree to use WriteO only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You must not use the Service for any of the following:
- Any activity that violates applicable local, national, or international law or regulation.
- Uploading, storing, or distributing malware, viruses, ransomware, or other harmful software or code.
- Attempting to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service, its servers, or any connected systems or networks.
- Attempting to reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise derive the source code of any part of the platform.
- Automated scraping, data mining, data harvesting, or systematic extraction of any content from WriteO without express written permission.
- Harassing, threatening, defaming, or impersonating other users or members of the WriteO team.
- Creating or storing content that is illegal, including but not limited to content that exploits minors, incites violence, or constitutes hate speech under applicable law.
- Using the Service to send unsolicited commercial communications or spam.
- Circumventing plan feature limits through the use of multiple accounts, scripts, or automated means.
- Interfering with or disrupting the integrity or performance of the Service or its underlying infrastructure.
Violations of this section may result in immediate account suspension or permanent termination without prior notice and without eligibility for a refund.
08.Fair Use and Service Integrity
Where WriteO plans describe features as "unlimited", this refers to usage within the bounds of normal, individual creative writing activity as intended by the platform. Unlimited features are subject to a Fair Use Policy to ensure equitable access, platform stability, and service quality for all users.
What "unlimited" means in practice:
- Unlimited features are designed for individual authors engaging in personal creative writing, novel management, and related storytelling workflows.
- There are no artificially imposed hard caps on the volume of content you create, characters you manage, or notes you store, as long as your usage reflects genuine individual creative activity.
- Unlimited access does not grant the right to use the platform as a bulk content production pipeline, automated generation system, data extraction tool, or any other application beyond personal creative writing.
Usage we monitor and reserve the right to address:
- Automated or scripted access: Use of bots, scripts, automated tools, or API clients to interact with WriteO in a manner that simulates or replaces human creative engagement.
- Disproportionate resource consumption: Usage patterns that place an unusually high computational or storage load on shared infrastructure in a way that degrades service quality for other users.
- Commercial content pipelines: Using the platform to produce high-volume content for third-party commercial distribution, resale, or publication at a scale inconsistent with individual creative use.
- Circumvention of plan limits: Attempting to exploit unlimited features across multiple accounts or through other technical means to extract value beyond the intended scope of the plan.
How we handle Fair Use concerns:
- We use the usage data described in Section 09 to identify patterns that may indicate Fair Use policy violations. This analysis is conducted at an aggregate and behavioral level and does not involve reading the content of your creative work.
- Where we identify a potential Fair Use concern, we will contact you by email at the address associated with your account before taking any restrictive action, except in cases where immediate action is required to protect platform integrity.
- Depending on the nature and severity of the concern, we may apply temporary rate limiting, request clarification from you, or, in cases of clear and intentional abuse, suspend or terminate the account in accordance with Section 15.
- We make reasonable efforts to distinguish between legitimate heavy use by prolific authors and usage that falls outside the intended scope of the platform. Users who believe a Fair Use determination has been made in error may contact us at [email protected] to appeal.
09.Diagnostic Data and Platform Analytics
To maintain platform reliability and improve the user experience, WriteO collects standard diagnostic and usage data. This is industry-standard practice for software-as-a-service platforms and is described in detail in our Privacy Policy.
In summary, diagnostic data includes:
- Platform performance metrics: Page load times, API response times, error rates, and system uptime indicators used to monitor and maintain service quality.
- Feature usage statistics: Aggregated counts of which features are used, such as how often the chapter editor or character dashboard is accessed. This data is anonymized and used only to prioritize development.
- Error and crash reports: Technical details of platform errors, including stack traces and request context, collected to identify and fix bugs.
- Session and navigation data: Information about how users move through the platform, used to improve information architecture and identify friction points.
This diagnostic data is not shared with any third party for advertising, profiling, or commercial purposes. It is used exclusively to operate, improve, and secure the WriteO platform. Your creative content is never included in or associated with diagnostic data.
10.Third-Party Services
WriteO uses a limited number of carefully selected third-party service providers to deliver and operate the platform. These providers are engaged under contractual obligations that restrict their use of your data to the specific services they provide to us.
- Infrastructure and Database: We use Supabase to provide our database, authentication, and file storage infrastructure. Your account data and content are stored on Supabase-managed servers. Supabase processes your data solely as a data processor on our behalf and is bound by strict data processing agreements.
- Payment Processing: Paddle.com acts as our Merchant of Record and processes all subscription payments. When you purchase a plan, your payment information is handled exclusively by Paddle. WriteO does not store your credit card or banking details. Please refer to Paddle's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle payment data.
- Analytics and Monitoring: We use product analytics and monitoring tools to collect the diagnostic data described in Section 08. These tools operate under data processing agreements that prohibit them from using your data for any purpose beyond providing their service to us.
- Email Communications: We use a transactional email provider to send account-related notifications such as billing confirmations, password resets, and service alerts.
We do not sell access to your data to any third party. We do not use third-party advertising networks or ad-targeting systems. All third-party integrations are reviewed for privacy compliance before adoption, and we maintain the right to change providers where doing so improves security or privacy outcomes for our users.
WriteO may include links to third-party websites or resources. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or availability of those external sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies independently.
11.Intellectual Property
The WriteO platform, including its name, logo, interface design, code, documentation, and all associated branding and marketing materials, is the exclusive intellectual property of WriteO App and is protected by applicable copyright, trademark, and intellectual property laws.
- You may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, publicly display, or create derivative works from WriteO's platform code, design, or branding without prior written permission.
- The WriteO name and logo may not be used in any context without our express written consent.
- Feedback, suggestions, or ideas you submit to us may be used by WriteO to improve the platform without obligation or compensation to you. This does not affect your ownership of your creative content as described in Section 05.
- User-generated creative content, as described in Section 05, remains your property and is not affected by this section.
12.Refund Policy
We want you to feel confident in your purchase. Refund eligibility depends on the plan type and the time elapsed since your purchase date. All refund calculations use the plan pricing that was active at the time of your original transaction.
Platform and Transaction Fees: All refunds are net of platform processing fees and third-party transaction charges. Paddle.com transaction fees, currency conversion costs, and payment processing charges incurred at the time of purchase are non-refundable and will be deducted from any refund amount. This applies to all plan types, including Monthly, Annual, and Lifetime.
Refund at a Glance
30-Day Money-Back Guarantee
All first-time paid purchases. Full refund within 7 days. Partial refund between days 8–30. Platform and transaction fees are non-refundable.
Annual Plan Pro-Rated Refund
Cancel an annual plan between Day 8 and Day 30 and receive a refund for unused months. Platform and transaction fees are non-refundable.
Lifetime: 30-Day Partial Window
Day 8 to Day 30 only. Partial refund calculated against the Standard plan monthly rate. Final after Day 30. Platform and transaction fees are non-refundable.
Cancel Monthly Anytime
Access continues to end of billing period. Partial refund available between days 8–30. Platform and transaction fees are non-refundable.
12.1 Monthly Subscriptions (Standard and Pro)
- Within 7 days of your first purchase: You are entitled to a full refund, no questions asked. This applies only to the initial subscription, not to subsequent renewals.
- Day 8 through Day 30: A pro-rated refund is available. The refund amount is calculated by deducting the daily rate for each day of access used from the total monthly purchase price.
- After 30 days: No refund is available. Your subscription remains active and fully accessible until the end of your current billing period.
- Renewals: Monthly renewal charges are not eligible for refund. We recommend cancelling your subscription before the renewal date if you do not intend to continue. Cancellation is available at any time from within your account settings.
- Downgrades: When downgrading from a paid plan to the Free tier, your premium features remain accessible until the end of the current billing period, after which your account transitions to Free plan limits. No partial refund is issued for the remaining days.
12.2 Annual Subscriptions (Standard and Pro)
- Within 7 days of purchase: Full refund. This applies to first-time annual purchases only.
- Day 8 through Day 30: A pro-rated refund is available. We calculate the number of complete calendar months elapsed since your purchase date, multiply that by the equivalent monthly rate for your plan, and refund the remaining balance.
Example: Annual Standard plan purchased for $96. Equivalent monthly rate: $12. You cancel after completing 2 full months. Refund: $96 minus (2 x $12) = $72. - After 30 days: No refund is available. Your subscription continues until the end of the annual billing period.
- Annual renewals: Not eligible for refund. Cancel before your annual renewal date to avoid future charges.
12.3 Lifetime License
The Lifetime license is a one-time purchase granting permanent access. Because its value is delivered indefinitely rather than over a fixed billing period, the refund window is shorter and more limited than subscription plans.
- Within 7 days of purchase: Full refund. The license is immediately and permanently revoked upon approval. No future Lifetime offer will be extended to that account.
- Day 8 through Day 30: A partial refund is available. The refund amount is calculated by deducting the Standard plan monthly rate for each complete calendar month of access used from the total Lifetime purchase price, less any non-refundable platform and transaction fees. If the deducted amount equals or exceeds the Lifetime price, no refund is payable.
Example: Lifetime license purchased for $199. Standard plan monthly rate: $12. You request a refund after 1 full month of use. Refund: $199 minus (1 x $12) = $187 (less platform fees). After 2 months: $199 minus (2 x $12) = $175 (less platform fees). And so on. - After 30 days: No refund is available under any circumstances. By this point the perpetual license has been delivered and accepted, and the value of ongoing access has been substantially realized.
- After 12 months of use: No refund under any circumstances whatsoever. This is an absolute and unconditional cutoff that applies regardless of account status, usage level, or any other factor.
- Effect of any Lifetime refund: Whether full or partial, any approved Lifetime refund results in permanent revocation of the license, immediate transition of the account to the Free plan, and permanent ineligibility for any future Lifetime offer on that account.
- Lifetime refund processing: Lifetime refund requests are reviewed manually within 3 business days of submission. Approved refunds are processed within 7 business days via Paddle.
12.4 Disputed Charges and Chargebacks
- If you believe you have been charged in error, contact us at [email protected] before initiating a chargeback with your bank or card issuer. We are committed to resolving genuine billing errors promptly and will typically respond within 2 business days.
- Initiating a chargeback without first contacting us is a breach of these Terms and may result in immediate account suspension pending investigation, including suspension of Lifetime accounts.
- Fraudulent or bad-faith chargebacks on Lifetime purchases will be contested with supporting evidence and may result in permanent account closure without compensation.
- Where a chargeback is upheld by your payment provider for a Lifetime purchase, the Lifetime license is permanently revoked regardless of outcome.
12.5 How to Request a Refund
All refund requests must be submitted to [email protected] with your account email address and a brief description of your reason for requesting a refund. Approved refunds for subscription plans are processed within 5 to 10 business days and returned to your original payment method via Paddle. Refund amounts are denominated in the currency of the original transaction; exchange rate fluctuations are not compensated.
13.Service Availability and Limitations
WriteO is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. While we make every effort to maintain a reliable and high-quality service, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access at all times.
- We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, secure, or continuously available.
- We reserve the right to perform scheduled or emergency maintenance that may temporarily affect access to the platform. We will communicate planned downtime in advance wherever possible.
- WriteO is not liable for any loss of data, loss of revenue, loss of business, or any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.
- Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the Service is limited to the total amount you have paid to WriteO in the 12 months immediately preceding the claim.
- We make no representations about the suitability, reliability, or accuracy of the platform for any specific purpose.
14.Beta Features
WriteO may from time to time make beta or early-access features available to users. By using any beta feature, you acknowledge and agree to the following:
- Beta features are provided for evaluation purposes and may be incomplete, unstable, or subject to change without notice.
- Beta features are provided without warranty of any kind. WriteO is not liable for data loss or unexpected behavior arising from the use of beta features.
- WriteO may discontinue any beta feature at any time without obligation to incorporate it into the final product.
- Feedback you provide about beta features may be used by WriteO to improve the platform without compensation.
- Access to beta features may be restricted to specific subscription tiers or invited users at WriteO's discretion.
15.Account Termination
Either party may terminate this agreement at any time:
- By You: You may delete your account at any time through your account settings. Account deletion permanently removes your profile and all associated content. We recommend exporting your work before deletion, as this action is irreversible.
- By WriteO: We reserve the right to suspend or permanently terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, abuse the platform, or if required to do so by law. Where practicable, we will provide notice before taking action.
- Upon termination of your account, your right to access the Service ceases immediately.
- All user data associated with a deleted account is permanently erased from our systems within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate fraud prevention purposes.
- Termination does not relieve you of any payment obligations that arose prior to termination.
16.Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless WriteO App, its officers, directors, employees, and service providers from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with:
- Your access to or use of the Service in violation of these Terms.
- Your violation of any applicable law or regulation.
- Content you upload, store, or transmit through the Service that infringes on the rights of a third party.
- Any misrepresentation made by you in connection with your account or use of the Service.
17.Force Majeure
WriteO shall not be held liable for any delay or failure to perform its obligations under these Terms if such delay or failure results from events beyond our reasonable control. These include, but are not limited to, natural disasters, acts of government, widespread internet outages, cyberattacks on our infrastructure providers, pandemic-related disruptions, or failures of critical third-party services. We will make reasonable efforts to notify affected users and restore service as promptly as possible.
18.Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws. In the event of any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the Service, both parties agree to:
- First attempt to resolve the dispute through good-faith negotiation by contacting us at [email protected].
- If informal resolution is unsuccessful within 30 days, the parties may pursue formal legal proceedings through the appropriate jurisdiction.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect. The failure of WriteO to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that right or provision. These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and WriteO with respect to your use of the Service and supersede any prior agreements.
19.Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, legal obligations, or platform features. When we make material changes:
- We will provide at least 30 days' advance notice via email or a prominent in-app notification before the changes take effect.
- The updated Terms will be published on this page with a revised effective date.
- Your continued use of WriteO after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
- If you do not agree with the changes, you may close your account and export your content before the new Terms take effect.
